Manchester United and Chelsea have been told to forget any hopes they had of persuading Jan Oblak to sign for them this summer.
United and Chelsea have both had major issues in the goalkeeping department this season with David de Gea and Kepa struggling. That has prompted rumours they will look to upgrade the position this summer.
United’s long-serving No 1 De Gea has made a series of high-profile errors over the last two years. His two high-profile blunders against Chelsea recently cost United a place in the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils have on-loan Sheffield United man Dean Henderson returning to the club. But at this stage it is unclear if he will be given the chance to fight for De Gea’s spot. Indeed, another loan exit has been mooted.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has his own issues as £71million star Kepa has been wildly inconsistent. The Spaniard was dropped on the final day win over Wolves. It would come as no shock to see Chelsea replace him.
Oblak is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in the world but he has grown frustrated at Atletico Madrid.
Last week the Daily Mail claimed the 27-year-old is unhappy with some of the decisions taken by the club’s sporting director Andrea Berta.
That has predictably led to claims that United and Chelsea will look to trigger the €100m exit clause in his contract.
However, the final say on the move would lie with the player himself. And Atletico defender Stefan Savic is convinced Oblak would not want to leave the Spanish capital.
Speaking to AS, Savic said: “We have not spoken about anything, these are issues of the press.
“It is normal, the best players are wanted by the best teams.
“Who doesn’t love Oblak? Everyone, but he is our goalkeeper and we are very happy that he is and I think he will continue with us in the future.”
Chelsea chase Ismael Bennacer
Bennacer has revived his career in Italy since leaving Arsenal in 2017. The Algerian earned a move to AC Milan last summer after impressing for Empoli over the prior two years.
While his previous time in England brought just one substitute appearance, Bennacer could be ready for another crack at the Premier League.
The midfielder has been linked with both Manchester clubs, United and City. And according to Algerian source Competition, it is the former who are getting serious about Bennacer.
However, it now appears Chelsea are leading the charge for Bennacer – and they have a cunning plan.
