Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are among the clubs reportedly considering a move for Brighton centre-back Ben White.
The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for the Seagulls since returning to the club over the summer after his outstanding loan spell at Leeds.
The Yorkshire outfit were keen on doing a permanent deal for the player but Brighton refused to sell.
But now Sky Sports claims that White’s performances this season have prompted a number of big clubs to show interest – with White remarkably valued in excess of £50million.
The report does not speculate whether any offers will be made in January or the summer. But White is very much a player in demand, it would seem.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been after a new partner for Harry Maguire for some time. Indeed, several top names, including the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Dayot Upamecano, have been linked to Old Trafford.
Chelsea, meanwhile, swooped for Thiago Silva over the summer, although doubts still remain over Kurt Zouma’s quality.
As for Tottenham, they are still to replace Jan Vertonghen and are currently without the injured Toby Alderweireld.
At this stage it remains to be seen if White is trying to engineer a move away from Brighton. But it would be diffcult to turn down a money-spinning move, if one presents itself.
White has started all 10 of Brighton’s Premier League games this season and is comfortable playing in a three or a back four.
He is renowned for his quality on the ball and his ability to read the game, and would surely be a big hit wherever he eventually ends up.
Chelsea leading race for United defensive target
Chelsea could take advantage of Raphael Varane’s contract situation at Real Madrid, according to a report.
Varane has been one of the best defenders in the world over the past few years, with the high point of his career being winning the World Cup with France in 2018.
However, his fortunes since then have not been as kind. Despite starting nine out of 10 league games for Madrid so far this season, he has struggled to display his best form.
Even so, he remains one of the best in the business when at the top of his game. Therefore, he would still be an attractive proposition for many sides.
Varane could become available in the coming months. His contract at Madrid expires in 2022, with no sign yet of an impending renewal.
Hence, the La Liga champions may have to sell him soon to avoid losing him for free. That will undoubtedly put many top clubs on alert.
Manchester United have been linked with the Frenchman recently, but according to Don Balon, it is another Premier League side who are considering a bid.
The report claims Chelsea are eager to improve their defence, and have outlined Varane as someone who could help them do just that. Read more…
