Man Utd, Chelsea warned as Bayern chief makes huge Erling Haaland vow

Erling Haaland

Bayern Munich chief Herbert Hainer has promised Erling Haaland’s suitors that his side have the spending power and desire to win the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker.

Haaland is a man in demand thanks to his outstanding goalscoring form over the past couple of years. Since joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, he has 43 goals from 45 games.

Touted by many as a possible future Ballon d’Or winner, Haaland is expected to continue his rapid rise. That means he is unlikely to stay at Dortmund forever.

He has a release clause that will be active in 2022, allowing clubs to sign him for a price that although not a bargain, could be lower than his true value.

There is a chance that Haaland could quit Dortmund before then. There is a genuine risk that they may miss out on the Champions League for next season.

The club seem to be calm that they will not have to sell their top assets in that event. However, Haaland’s ambition may mean otherwise.

With his release clause not yet active, Dortmund will be able to command whatever price they want. Agent Mino Raiola recently claimed there were only 10 clubs in the world that would be able to afford him.

Plenty expect both Chelsea and Manchester United to both strongly contest for his signature this summer.

However, Bayern chief Hainer also claims his side will very much be in the running to sign him.

Speaking to Sport 1, Hainer said: “We will go even more down our successful path of signing young players with outstanding skills.

“We are an economically very strong and healthy club.

“Although we’re also suffering massively from the pandemic, we can always bring in players when we’re convinced about them.”

Bayern plans for Goretzke and Sule

Two Bayern stars attracting Premier League attention themselves are Leon Goretzke and Niklas Sule. The pair will have just 12 months left on their deals come the summer.

Sule is wanted by Chelsea, amid claims his sale could be forced this summer.

Goretzke, meanwhile, is being tracked by Liverpool, among others.

Hainer, however, is hopeful of tying both players down to extended deals.

“Leon Goretzka has developed hugely in the last 12 months,” said Hainer. “He’s become one of the most important players for us. Yes, we want to extend with him.”

He added of Sule: “He’s an important player for us. We’ll sit down with him in the spring.”
