Man Utd consider swoop for Serie A star to replace first team regular

Manchester United are reportedly ready to sell David De Gea this summer and already have a replacement in mind.

De Gea has been a great servant to United since joining them from Atletico Madrid in 2011. However, his form has dropped off over the past couple of seasons.

United brought Dean Henderson back into the fold at the start of this season to keep De Gea on his toes. Even so, the Spaniard has still managed to start all but two of their Premier League games so far in 2020-21.

However, his long-term future may lie away from Old Trafford. According to Fichajes, United are ready to put De Gea up for sale in the summer.

The 30-year-old will have plenty of suitors. It is claimed that Juventus, Bayern Munich and PSG could all be interested in him.

Should the right offer arrive, then United may allow him to move on. The report also identifies who their next number one could be – and it is not Henderson.

According to Fichajes, United are considering a bid for Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Donnarumma is one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the world. He already has several years of experience under his belt, but does not yet turn 22 until next week.

David De Gea is a leader for Manchester United

Former England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain believes Manchester United should stick with 'leader' David de Gea as their No1 over understudy Dean Henderson.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Donnarumma is an attractive proposition.

The Italian had previously been linked with Chelsea. However, if they can meet his wage demands, United could now make their own move.

That would pave the way for De Gea to leave, while it also may prompt Henderson to consider his own future.

The England international stood out on loan at Sheffield United over the previous two seasons, but has struggled for regular gametime this season. Donnarumma would be above him in the pecking order if he was to arrive at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer tells Henderson where to improve

Dean Henderson TEAMtalk

Henderson may be happy at United for now, but he recently received some advice from his manager about what he must do to usurp De Gea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said earlier this month: “He’s working hard on a couple of aspects that we’ve spoken about with him.

“I’ve been impressed with his attitude and work-rate.”

Reports indicate that Solskjaer wants Henderson to improve with his footwork if he is to move up the hierarchy.
