Man Utd could renew interest in €150m Barcelona contract rebel

Manchester United could renew their interest in Barcelona defender Jordi Alba in January.

Barcelona are believed to be having problems extending the contract of the 29-year-old, according to Sport.

They report that Barca have not yet opened contract talks with the player, whose contract runs out in 2020.

Per the source, Alba was promised improved terms two years ago, but Barca under Ernesto Valverde, have yet to fulfil their promise and United may well explore whether they can exploit any differences between the parties.

Mundo Deportivo meanwhile state that the Catalan side have made contact with Alba’s entourage in an attempt to renew his deal.

Alba in June claimed he would be happy to sign up for life at Barca, if they wanted him.

“I’m very happy at Barca. If it depended on me, I would stay at Barcelona my whole life,” Alba said at a Spain press conference at the World Cup.

“But it doesn’t depend only on me, it’s also what the club wants.”

Alba, who has a €150million relsease clause, was linked with Tottenham and Man Utd in the summer.

Jose Mourinho was on the hunt for a new left-back in the summer and Don Balon stateed that Mourinho had made Alba a priority target and that United were ready to outbid Spurs to land the Spain international.

Tottenham star Danny Rose and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon were also major targets for Mourinho, but Mourinho ended the summer with just the arrival of youngster Diogo Dalot and Fred.

Spurs were also believed to be looking for cover for Rose, who almost left for PSG on transfer deadline day.
