Man Utd fail in £53million bid for top Jose Mourinho defensive target

Manchester United have reportedly seen a £53illion offer for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar knocked back by the Serie A giants.
The report in The Sun claims that United will have to part company with a few million more if they want to bring the Slovakia international to Old Trafford in the new year.
Inter are currently trying to persuade the 23-year-old to pen a new deal at the San Siro, with his agent telling TuttoMercatoWeb: “We’re talking about it. We’re working on it. It’s a subject we’ll be facing more intensively over the next few months”
Skriniar is regarded as one of the top young central defenders in European football and is at the opposite end of the age range of another major Mourinho target in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin.
The Inter star has been outstanding since moving to Milan from Sampdoria for €20million in the summer of 2017, and helped the Nerazzurri qualify for the Champions League last season.
The Red Devils have conceded 21 goals in the Premier League thus far this season, the fifth highest total in the league, which has led Mourinho to up his search for defensive reinforcements.
Should Godin or Skriniar arrive in the new year, then one or two of Mourinho’s current central defensive options could be on the way – with Everton and Wolves both chasing Marcos Rojo, while Arsenal and Tottenham are both said to be keen on Eric Bailly.
