Manchester United could be set to lose a Jose Mourinho favourite despite talks over a new contract, a report claims.
According to ESPN FC, the Red Devils have opened talks with representatives of Ander Herrera over a new deal at Old Trafford, with his current one expiring in the upcoming summer.
The report claims that sources have informed ESPN that “a number of clubs in Spain and Italy are prepared to offer the 29-year-old midfielder a contract” ahead of a possible free transfer next June.
However, Herrera does want to stay at the club, but “is willing to consider his options if terms cannot be agreed” after finding opportunities much harder to come by this season.
United are “hopeful of tying up a deal before January”, the month when Herrera would be allowed to enter discussions with teams outside of the Premier League.
