Man Utd step up interest in €50m City target as Sancho alternative

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in Valencia star Ferran Torres as a possible alternative to Jadon Sancho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to improve his side’s attacking options this summer. That is despite the recent impressive form of front three Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Sancho has long been touted as United’s top summer target, having scored 20 goals and added 20 assists this season.

However, the longer the transfer saga rumbles on, the more doubts emerge over whether it will actually happen.

Dortmund are seemingly refusing to budge over their £100million asking price for the England man. That is despite a recent report that they could be willing to compromise over a deal.

And according to Spanish outlet Marca, via the Express, United have once again turned to Valencia’s Torres as a potential alternative.

The 20-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and Valencia may look to cash in amid their own financial troubles.

That would make the highly-touted attacker a cost-effective option, and also cheaper than his original €50m price tag.

However, they will face stiff competition for Torres, with neighbours Manchester City and Liverpool also admirers. Borussia Dortmund – should they lose Sancho – are also keen, along with Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli.

Despite the report, M.E.N. Sport claims that Torres is not a major United target.

They state Schalke’s Rabbi Matondo and Thiago Almada of Velez Sarsfield are back-up options for Sancho instead.

Psgn boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly believes Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford would be a “perfect” signing for the French champions.

Rashford is enjoying his best season in front of goal, scoring 21 goals in 38 games across all competitions.

Indeed, he has netted twice and provided three assists in six games since the Premier League’s restart.

Rashford was close to joining Barcelona earlier in his career and, according to The Independent, he is now also a target for PSG.

Tuchel has earmarked the England international as a “top target”. And he believes Rashford  would be ideal in the front line alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Read more…
