Manchester United announced their fifth signing of deadline day after bringing in 18-year-old Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri.
Pellistri signed a five-year deal after completing a move for a fee understood to be 10million euros (£9m) from Penarol in his home country.
“To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true,” he said.
“I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me. To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.
“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity. I’m ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England.”
Solskjaer said: “Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time. We believe that he will be a real talent for the long term.
“Whilst we understand it will take time for him to adapt to the English game, he is capable of having an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.
“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop. He has all of the technical qualities and the right mentality required to become a top player here.
“We are all looking forward to working with him to fulfil his potential over the coming years.”
There was also a major outgoing in the form of Red Devils stallwart Chris Smalling. The former England defender joined Italian giants Roma on a permanent deal.
Solskjaer chat convinced Cavani to sign
Edinson Cavani has revealed how a chat with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced him to sign a one-year deal at United.
The veteran attacker joined on a free transfer following his release from Paris St Germain over the summer.
Cavani, who has won the Golden Boot in both Ligue 1 and Serie A, penned a one-year contract. There is also the option to extend that deal for a further year.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 33-year-old said: “Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked really hard during the time off. I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.
“I’ve played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. Can’t wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.
“I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football. My focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.” Read more…
