Man Utd finally set to offload Louis van Gaal flop

Matteo Darmian could be poised to finally leave Manchester United after four years at Old Trafford.

The BBC report that United have received an inquiry from an unnamed club for the 29-year-old with different outlets, including the Daily Mail, reporting that Parma are keen on the defender.

United are keen to offload the defender, who was a £12.7m buy under Louis van Gaal from Torino in 2015, before Monday’s European transfer deadline.

The 29-year-old has played only 13 times since December 2017 and his contract is due to expire next year and United are keen to get a return on the player, rather than lose the Italian for free next summer.

Darmian was frequently left out of United’s matchday squad last season and hasn’t played since the defeat by Manchester City in April.

England defender Chris Smalling is also likely to depart with the centre-back heading for Roma to replace Kostas Manolas, while there are also question marks over the future of Marcos Rojo.

Like Darmian and Smalling, Rojo has played no part in United’s opening three Premier League games.
