Man Utd have reportedly received a flat refusal from Inter Milan after proposing a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Milan Skriniar.
After conceding a whopping 54 goals in 38 Premier League games last season, United boss Solskjaer has identified the need to bring in a top class central defender.
However, according to Goal Italy, the Red Devils have very little chance of getting Skriniar included in a deal for Lukaku.
The Belgian appears to be deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after a poor 2018-19 campaign, but United value the former Everton frontman at €80m and are still hoping to do business with an Inter side now managed by Antonio Conte – who is known to be a big fan of Lukaku.
Any hopes of a swap deal are virtually non-existent at this stage though, as Inter have no intention of letting 24-year-old leave the San Siro – given how important he has become since signing from Sampdoria two years ago.
The report goes on to add that Solskjaer will turn his attention to other centre-back targets, although Ajax star Matthijs De Ligt has seemingly outlined his No 1 transfer destination.
West Ham’s Issa Diop looks to have emerged as United’s top target in recent days, although the Hammers are already playing hardball over one of their top performers last season.
That would appear to leave Leicester’s Harry Maguire, who could cost as much as £80m, or Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld – who has a £26m release clause but has already hinted that he may see out the last year of his contract before leaving on a free.
