Man Utd target Grealish ‘worth every penny’ of £80m fee says ex-Villa man

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has claimed that Jack Grealish would be “worth every penny” should he complete an £80million move away from the club in the next transfer window.

With Villa in danger of relegation at the end of the season it looks likely that their captain will be on his way out of Villa Park, especially after a strong season from a personal point of view.

The 24-year-old has been the man his team have relied on in 2019/20, with his seven goals and six assists in the Premier League leaving them with some hope of survival.

His displays have attracted interest from a number of other top flight clubs, with Chelsea and Tottenham said to be fans of the attacking midfielder, although it’s Manchester United have been most heavily linked.

According to reports, Villa have told any potential suitors that they will have to splash out up to £80million to secure the services of Grealish, a price tag that Hutton believes is more than justified.

In an interview with Football Insider, relayed on Goal, the Scotsman said: “Obviously it’s a massive price tag but in my opinion, he’s worth every penny, he’s that good.

“He could be a team’s game-changer and that’s no disrespect to anyone at Aston Villa, you know I love them to bits, but for him to be playing with a top-four team I think he’d be outstanding.

“Everybody would be buzzing off him, they would see his quality and I think he would only grow in stature so I totally understand the price tag.

“Whether what’s happened is going to affect it, I’m not too sure because it’s going to happen to every club.”

Earlier this month, it was suggested that Man United have been given the green light to press ahead with a deal for Grealish, although they were hoping to do a deal for around £50million, much less than Villa are hoping for.

It is unclear whether the different valuations of the player will prove to be a deal-breaker, but both parties will have to significantly change their stance if a deal is to be finalised.
