Manchester United are keen on completing the signing of £25m Celtic star Kieran Tierney, according to a report.
A recent report from the the Daily Record podcast claimed that Everton see the Scotland left-back as the perfect replacement for Leighton Baines and are preparing a bid worth £25million.
Details of the figures behind Everton’s bid have been revealed by Premier League transfer consultant Ian McGarry in a transfer window podcast with Duncan Castles and Jonny McFarlane.
“He loves Celtic and he is a Celtic supporter and ideally Tierney would want to stay at Celtic, but he sees that his career would be limited,” said McGarry.
“Celtic are unperturbed that his agents are actively marketing Tierney to the Premier League and that they have agreed a deal in principle for the player worth around £85,000 a week.
“It would be a five-year contract, with step-ups and by year five he would be earning around £140,000 a week.”
However, the Manchester Evening News claims that United could make a move for Tierney next summer, allowing him to stay at Celtic for another season.
Scouts have monitored the 21-year-old’s progress this season and believe that he could be the ideal choice to fix Jose Mourinho’s left-back quandary.
Ashley Young and Luke Shaw are reportedly set to continue as Mourinho’s options next season, but the Red Devils are seeking a long-term solution.
