Man Utd decide on Dean Henderson’s future ahead of Prem restart

Manchester United will extend goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s loan deal at Sheffield United to allow him to finish the season with the Blades, according to reports.

Henderson was sent out on his second successive loan to Chris Wilder’s side last summer after helping the Blades to automatic promotion at the end of last term.

This season, the 23-year-old has continued to impress and had kept 10 clean sheets – the Premier League’s second-best record – before the top-flight’s hiatus.

Henderson’s loan deal is set to expire on June 30 but according to The Telegraph, United – after much deliberation – will extend that date to allow him to complete the protracted season.

The newspaper says that the Blades are “confident” that the 23-year-old will be able to play a part in all of the club’s remaining Premier League games, except for their trip to face United at Old Trafford.

Previous reports suggested that the Red Devils were considering bringing Henderson back to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side an edge in the race for Champions League football next season.

United sit fifth, two points ahead of the Blades, who have a game in hand and could leapfrog Solskjaer’s men with victory.

Players, managers, the Professional Football Association (PFA) and Premier League representatives are set to speak on Tuesday to get a feeling for whether Phase Two of ‘Project Restart’ – introducing contact training – will be voted through.

A vote on Phase Two will then be held on Wednesday and if it is implemented, a meeting is pencilled for Thursday when clubs could set a formal restart date for the top flight, as well as decide on fixture schedules and TV arrangements.

In other news, Solskjaer’s side are on the hunt for a striker with Odion Ighalo set to head back to China when his loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua expires on Monday.
