Man Utd ready to hijack Real Madrid’s transfer of 10-goal Ajax star

Manchester United are plotting to hijack Real Madrid’s move for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to reports.

Marca claim the news “comes from a report in the Netherlands” and it will have Real Madrid panicking with United looking to wrestle the 22-year-old midfielder from the clutches of the LaLiga giants.

Van de Beek is understood to have signed a pre-contract agreement at the Bernabeu and United know it will be difficult to get their hands on the Holland international, but will try nevertheless.

In January Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf revealed that van de Beek will be joining Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos in the summer.

The outlet’s chief sports writer, Valentijn Driessen, told Veronica Inside (via of the impending transfer, saying: “You can write that down [the Van de Beek to Real Madrid transfer being done]. It’s all settled. It’s done.”

United though remain keen on the player and whether they have been tipped off that Real have gone cold on the player remans to be seen, but the report claims they will need Real and van de Beek to renounce the agreement and only then will United be able to officially approach the Ajax star.

The player was expected to make the move to the Spanish capital last summer, when Frenkie de Jong and Matthjis de Light left the Dutch side, but Real Madrid were unable to offload James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale and a deal never materialised.

It’s worth noting though that  speaking to reporters (via Goal) about the rumours in January, Van de Beek said: “Nothing is official [with Real Madrid].

“There is no contract. That is the situation. That has not changed throughout the season.”

Asked if he had to choose between staying at Ajax and moving to Madrid, the midfielder said: “I don’t want to choose.

“Both are great clubs, but as I said before, Ajax is also a great club.

“Therefore, there is nothing to choose from. Everything would be very good.”

Van de Beek, who has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists this season, is out of contract in June 2022 and this summer will be a perfect time to cash in on the player who has come through the ranks at the Amsterdam club.
