Man Utd hopes raised after Dortmund development hints at Sancho exit

Jadon Sancho TEAMalk

Man Utd appear to have been boosted in their quest to sign Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund’s latest action pointed toward a departure.

The Red Devils’ interest in the England superstar has become one of the biggest transfer talking points of the summer.

Man Utd were previously reported to be confident in their ability to get the deal over the line. Though due diligence required they consider a back-up winger if the deal fails to materialise.

With the club’s transfer policy shifting from ageing superstars to players in their early twenties with a high upside, Sancho would appear to be the perfect candidate for a summer transfer splash – and he’d most likely be the perfect signing to catapult United back to being the bookies’ pre season favourites.

Now, the club’s hopes of securing his signature appear to have been boosted after a report by The Sunday Times.

The newspaper claim that Dortmund have already begun to line up Lille winger Jonathan Ikone to replace the potentially outgoing Sancho.

A fee of £41m is cited as being required to bring the 22-year-old to Germany, approximately half of the amount most frequently touted for Sancho.

Ikone has notched three goals and six assists in the current campaign –  a far cry from Sancho’s 17 and 17 in his respective league – but Dortmund have proven their capability for developing young players into globally renowned superstars.

The German side are described by Goal as ‘open to a big sale’ this summer in order to ease the financial burden caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Solskjaer would prefer a left-footed player to complement Maguire and a broad range of centre-halves have been touted as potentially fittig the bill.
