Manchester United have identified Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell as a primary summer target, according to reports.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure to deliver in both the January transfer window and at the end of the season after a poor start to the current campaign.

In fact, the Red Devils’ record of 34 points from 24 games is the club’s worst at this stage of a season in 30 years.

United’s main priority in what remains of January is a striker, with Marcus Rashford set to be out until April with a serious back injury.

However, according to Metro, Solskjaer has earmarked Chilwell as the club’s main target at the end of the season.

Chilwell has become one of Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers’ key players and is firmly in line for a spot in England’s Euro 2020 squad this summer.

The newspaper claims that United could go into pole position to sign the 23-year-old, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reluctant to pay more than £50m for Chilwell’s signature.

Indeed, City have Benjamin Mendy and Oleskandr Zinchenko on the books, with the former yet to announce himself at the Etihad Stadium following a string of serious injuries.

As for United’s current left-backs, it is claimed that Solskjaer accepts Brandon Williams, 19, cannot yet be considered a regular starter, despite being one of the club’s most impressive players this term.

Luke Shaw, meanwhile, signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford in October 2018 but the newspaper says that United would be willing to listen to offers for the 24-year-old.

In other United news, strike target Edinson Cavani has reportedly rejected a big-money offer from the Red Devils.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Cavani has less than six months left on his current deal in the French capital and has been linked with a move away this summer, with Atletico Madrid said to be keen.

Indeed, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel admitted that the Uruguayan is a bench player in his side due to a lack of rhythm and confidence.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Cavani has turned down an offer from United as he looks to move on from Paris.
