Kevin Mbabu: Insists Newcastle take positives from Manchester City hammering

Manchester United have been linked with a swoop for former Newcastle United defender Kevin Mbabu.

According to Fussball Info, Mbabu could be a replacement for Matteo Darmian, who is set to leave Old Trafford to return to Italy with Juventus.

The 23-year-old Swiss defender only made five appearances for Newcastle in an injury-hit four-year spell, during which time he was also loaned out to Rangers and current club Young Boys.

After signing permanently in the summer, Mbabu played a major role at right-back as Young Boys won their first Swiss Super League title for over 30 years last season, and his form has seen him attract the interest of Premier League clubs again.

Manchester United have already signed one full-back this summer, with Porto’s Diogo Dalot joining for £19m.

The Red Devils also face competition from AC Milan for the player, who is under contract in Switzerland until 2020.
