Man Utd at risk of regretting failed bid as two rivals join Sancho chase

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Jadon Sancho is likely to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Sancho was the top target for Manchester United in the summer. However, they did not meet Dortmund’s €120m (£109m) valuation.

The feeling at the time was that they may come to regret it. United were the only suitor willing to bid for Sancho in 2020, so it was a golden opportunity for them.

In the future, though, other clubs will be in a better position to join them in the transfer battle. Therefore, it will be harder for them to sign Sancho.

Indeed, Romano has now confirmed that two of United’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Chelsea, are watching the situation – with the winger likely to move in summer 2021.

“I think he’s moving next summer,” he told the Que Golazo Podcast. “Yes, as we said, it’s so difficult in January, we’ve said that so many times about Jadon Sancho, because Borussia Dortmund are not huge to sell their players in the middle of a season, of a complicated season as they are having, so they need their stars to be back at a top level, and they don’t want to sell Jadon Sancho in January.

“But next summer I expect Jadon Sancho to leave the club. Yes, he was really one step away from leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer; Manchester United were really close to signing him for €100m, but then Borussia Dortmund changed their plans.

“But Manchester United had the agreement with the player and his agents, so everything was ready, and then the deal collapsed at the last stages.”

‘Race is open’ for Sancho

“That’s why I say next summer, I expect Jadon Sancho to leave the club and be back in the Premier League.

“We have to understand if Manchester United will arrive with €120m, if they will be ready this time to sign the player or if they’ll take the risk of other clubs joining the race.

“I will say like Liverpool, Chelsea, and a lot of clubs are scouting the situation of Jadon Sancho, so at this point the race is open.”
