Manchester United have reportedly joined Arsenal in scouting Dayot Upamecano ahead of the start of the new season.

The Red Devils saw their season finally come to an end after a frustrating Europa League semi-final loss against Sevilla.

While most of the attention has been on United’s interest in Jadon Sancho, a new centre-back has always been on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar.

And that attention currently appears to be on RB Leipzig star Upamecano.

The Red Devils boss still wants a long-term partner for record signing Harry Maguire. With Victor Lindelof not doing enough to convince the Norwegian that he is the answer.

The Athletic, as cited by The Sun, claims that United will continue to scout Upamecano. Although Arsenal and Real Madrid are also monitoring his progress.

The Gunners, however, are closing in on a deal for 22-year-old Lille star Gabriel Magalhaes. With the Brazilian having a medical with the London club on Thursday.

Upamecano will not come cheap

As for Upamecano, he only signed a new three-year contract at Leipzig on July 31.

But the report adds that the Champions League semi-finalists know they could lose their star defender in the coming months.

Despite that they will not let the player leave on the cheap, with a fee in excess of £50m being mooted.

United could, however, wait until next season to move for the 21-year-old – when his £40m release clause becomes active.

Meanwhile, United have learnt the price Bournemouth are seeking for David Brooks this summer – and it’s likely to tempt an approach, claim reports. Read more…
