Jules Kounde TEAMtalk

Manchester United are willing to offer up to €70m for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, according to reports.

Kounde has risen to prominence in recent years, helping Sevilla win the Europa League last season.

The centre-back is now one of the most promising defenders in Europe. As such, he is attracting plenty of transfer interest.

It is claimed by La Razon that Kounde could become the most in-demand defender in the summer transfer window after other clubs missed out on Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano.

Kounde may still be available, though, if any club can meet Sevilla’s valuation.

According to La Razon, Man Utd, PSG and Real Madrid are three of the potential suitors for Kounde.

It is not yet clear who is the favourite to sign him, but the report adds that United already have a price in mind if they are to bid for him.

Apparently, they would be willing to go up to €70m for the 22-year-old. What’s more, they have an advantage over their competitors.

Neither Real Madrid nor PSG would be able to match that offer without selling some players first. That doesn’t mean they won’t try, though.

Man Utd more likely to afford Kounde?

It is claimed that Madrid could try to send Isco or Mariano Diaz to Sevilla in a cash-plus-player swap deal. Knowing that Raphael Varane – coincidentally linked with United – could be on the move, they are willing to make an effort to sign Kounde as a replacement.

Another defender who could leave Madrid is Sergio Ramos, who is yet to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu. Hence, he could be available on a free transfer this summer.

PSG are one of the contenders for the Spanish international. But if Ramos commits his future to Madrid instead, the Ligue 1 champions will shift their focus to Kounde.

The club from the French capital could make a bigger offer than United by activating Kounde’s €90m release clause. However, they would only be able to afford that if they sold Kylian Mbappe first.

Tuesday’s papers revealed that Mbappe is increasingly likely to stay at PSG next season anyway, which may scupper those plans.
