Liverpool are closing in on a £40m deal for a Monaco star who has been heavily linked with Manchester United, a report claims.

According to claims from the usually reliable French outlet RMC Sport, Liverpool are to make a bid for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

French journalists Mohamed Bouhafsi and Bertrand Latour both tweeted about the speculation this evening, and it is gathering pace in France.

The price tag varies from €50-55million, an amount which would reportedly be enough for Monaco to part with their key midfielder in the upcoming window.

In addition, Dominic King of the Daily Mirror claims that the deal is close at around £40m, and that he is lined up as Emre Can’s replacement with the German international set to join Juventus on a free transfer.

Fabinho was a big part of the squad which reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2016-17, and has been linked with an exit since, though former team-mates Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva have all already left for new pastures.

Reports in February suggested that Jose Mourinho was ready to launch a £44m bid to bring Fabinho to Old Trafford, and speculation has continued since that United are still interested.
