Manchester United want to sign Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier as successor to Antonio Valencia, according to reports.

Trippier’s performances for Spurs in the Premier League and for England at the World Cup have seen his reputation grow with PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus all credited with an interest.

The Bury-born right-back was named in FIFA’s Team of the Tournament at the World Cup and the Daily Mail claims that the Red Devils want to make him their long-term successor to Antonio Valencia.

The report continues by claiming that although United have been admiring Trippier for a while, a deal could take place in 12 months with little time to get a deal done in this window.

Valencia is 33 now and United are looking at potential replacements for the Ecuadorian with Trippier’s name the latest to pop up.

PSG have an aging right-back of their own in Dani Alves that may need replacing soon, while Juventus and Real Madrid could also be in the market for a new right-back.

That leaves United plenty of competition for his signature with the European transfer window staying open for over three weeks longer than the UK deadline of 5pm on Thursday.
