Man Utd, Liverpool blow as fresh hope keeps West Ham favourites for striker

Youssef En-Nesyri Sevilla, Morocco March 2021

West Ham remain firm favourites to land Liverpool and Manchester United target Youssef En-Nesyri from Sevilla, according to a report.

En-Nesyri became one of the hottest targets of the January transfer window. The Morocco international entered the winter window with nine goals in all competitions, with the Hammers subsequently showing interest. Indeed, the London club looked to replace Sebastian Haller, who left for Ajax.

But despite their advances – which included a bid of £27million labelled unsatisfactory by Sevilla sporting director Monchi – West Ham did not get a deal over the line.

As such, En-Nesyri could prove to be a key character in this summer’s window.

He has continued his fine form, taking his goal tally to 22 in all competitions. Therefore, more recent reports claim that Liverpool and Manchester United have joined the hunt.

Sevilla, who are likely to make a sale due to the financial burden of the coronavirus crisis – want to make En-Nesyri their club-record departure.

The La Liga club reportedly want £40million, which perhaps equates to the fee they wanted in January.

According to La Razon, though, West Ham remain the ‘best-placed’ team to land En-Nesyri. That is despite the reported approaches from United and Liverpool.

Moyes: No disappointment if West Ham miss out on top four

Moyes: No disappointment if West Ham miss out on top four

West Ham manager David Moyes says they will not be disappointed if they miss out on a top-four place with the Hammers sitting a point above Chelsea in fourth.

West Ham have already built up relations with Monchi.

Furthermore, they have received encouragement about funding a move amid their push for Champions League football.

David Moyes’ men sit fourth in the Premier League table with six games to go. While they suffered a blow with a 3-2 loss to Newcastle last weekend, sealing a top-four finish is still in their hands.

Chelsea sit a point behind in fifth having played a game less, but the two sides have to play each other again.

Meanwhile, West Ham also reportedly looked at Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea during the winter 2021 market.

The Frenchman has scored just four times in the German top flight but does have 10 goals overall in 2020-2021. Nevertheless, it seems as though this may well be his last campaign for his club.

Indeed, reports claim that Monchengladbach are looking to raise funds amid the coronavirus pandemic.
