Man Utd loanee in dark over Old Trafford return chances with duo under debate by Nottingham Forest

Dean Henderson is facing an uncertain future while Nottingham Forest deliberate the chances of keeping him beyond his loan spell from Man Utd, a report has revealed.
Man Utd sent Henderson on loan to Nottingham Forest for the current season after he failed to usurp David de Gea as their number one. All along, it has been unclear what will happen to the academy graduate after.
Henderson has been celebrating his 26th birthday on Sunday. Hence, he is at an age where he won’t want to be a rotation option, understandably.
De Gea’s own future at Man Utd remains up for discussion ahead of the end of his contract in the summer. Perhaps there could be a spot for Henderson to take back at Old Trafford.
But he will only want to go back if he is going to be first choice. Whether he has done enough to warrant that could be debated.
Alternatively, Henderson could explore a permanent transfer away from Man Utd. There have been suggestions of other suitors, such as Tottenham, but Forest could be among the main contenders in that case.
Yet an update from Football Insider has revealed they are no closer to deciding if they will want that or not.
When Henderson became injured over the winter, Forest reacted by signing Keylor Navas on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. By the summer, they will have to pick one or the other to try and move forward with.
If they suffer relegation straight back to the Championship, though, either of them will probably be out of reach. On the other hand, securing Premier League safety ahead of the new season would allow them to firm up their plans either way.
Dean Henderson waits to prove himself again
Forest boss Steve Cooper will want to have a guaranteed number one next season, whichever division his side end up in. Ideally, they want to be preparing for a second consecutive season in the top flight – with a main goalkeeper of the appropriate pedigree to match.
For now, there is no preference between Navas and Henderson. Both of them will have to make the most of their opportunities to prove themselves before the end of the current campaign.
Navas is nearer the end of his career, so the upcoming battle will probably have a bigger impact on Henderson’s career trajectory.
Naturally, Man Utd will be keeping up to date with any developments regarding Henderson, whom they still have under contract until 2025.
This season, the one-cap England international has played 20 times for Forest. During those appearances, he has conceded 33 goals.
In contrast, Navas’ record for Forest so far reads six appearances and 12 goals conceded.
