Man Utd have been scuppered by Real Madrid after one of their top targets – Donny van de Beek – is set to join Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in the summer, according to the latest report.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s quest for midfield reinforcements has been widely reported, with the ongoing confusion surrounding Paul Pogba’s long term future with the club and Scott McTominay’s untimely injury leaving the Red Devils perilously short of options in the middle.

Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes has been touted as Solskjaer’s priority target, with the most recent report suggesting the Portguese is ready to undertake the switch ‘at any minute’.

The potential transfer has hit multiple snags over recent days, however, with two factors cited to explain the delays.

Ajax’s Van de Beek has received his fair share of column inches too, with a report revealing the Dutch star was high on the Norwegian boss’ wishlist.

Hope of that deal appears to have been lost, however, after Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf revealed that the 23-year-old will in fact be joining Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos in the summer.

The outlet’s chief sports writer, Valentijn Driessen, told Veronica Inside (via Goal.com) of the impending transfer, saying: “You can write that down [the Van de Beek to Real Madrid transfer being done]. It’s all settled. It’s done.”

Driessen continued: “Manchester United won’t have to call for him anymore.”

The Goal article cites reports that claim the deal between the two sides will be worth €55 million (£47m/$61m).

Meanwhile, Man Utd could ditch their transfer policy in order to target the loan signing of an out-of-favour ex-Real Madrid midfielder.
