Transfer guru details Prem giants’ Messi interest; shock Liverpool claim

The respective levels of interest in acquiring Lionel Messi of Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea have been detailed by a Sky Sports transfer expert.

Global superstar Messi, 33, shocked the world when he announced his intentions to leave Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Argentine has spent his entire professional career at the Nou Camp. In this time, Messi has won 33 major team trophies and scooped a record six Ballon d’Or awards.

Should he depart The Blaugrana, a switch to England would be viable given the Premier League’s financial power.

Four teams in particular have had their respective levels of interest scrutinised by Sky Sports transfer guru Kaveh Solhekol. Though his revelation about Liverpool is perhaps the most surprising.

Solhekol said on the transfer show (via Sky Sports) “If you could get Lionel Messi for free, there are obviously a few clubs who would be interested.

“But there are only a few clubs who who be able to sign him because you’re talking about a player who reportedly earns around £100m a year.

“Our information is that Messi would be interested in playing for Man City – it’s a no-brainer because he’s played for Pep Guardiola before.

“But there’s a feeling Man City don’t want to get caught up in a power play between the player, president and board and they’re waiting to see developments over the next few days.

“But let’s be clear – City have the finances to do this deal.”

Man Utd have taken their first steps in the pursuit of Messi, with a recent report detailing their level of contact thus far.

Solhekol revealed the club still harbour hopes of acquiring Jadon Sancho, however, meaning any Messi aspirations are likely to be kept close to their chest.

Man Utd aren’t making any official comment – Jadon Sancho remains their No. 1 target but they would have the finances to do the deal.”

Perhaps most shockingly given Messi’s achievements, Solhekol said of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds: “Liverpool? We’re being told their level of interest would be less than zero!

“What about Chelsea? Roman Abramovich would love to have a player like Messi but they’ve already spent a lot of money and there’s nothing to suggest they would try to sign Messi this summer.”

Pundit warns against Mourinho move for Liverpool starlet

Brewster Liverpool TEAMtalk

Liverpool should avoid sending rising star striker Rhian Brewster on loan to Tottenham and choose a side where he will get more game time, according to one pundit.

Brewster recently rejoined his Liverpool teammates after a stunning loan spell at Swansea. The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 22 games to guide the Swans into the Championship play-offs.

Indeed, he has continued such blistering form in pre-season. After netting against Stuttgart on Saturday, he came off the bench to rescue Liverpool a draw on Tuesday.

However, it remains unclear whether Brewster will stay at Anfield, as he did for the first half of last season.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are one of the sides considering a loan move, but Darren Bent insists Liverpool should look elsewhere.
