Manchester United midfield target Moises Caicedo has formally agreed to join a Premier League club, according to his manager.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since the close of the summer window.
However, both Chelsea and Everton are also chasing his signature, while Brighton were actually rumoured to have already snapped the player up.
And now Independiente del Valle boss Santiago Morales has confirmed that one of those clubs might have won the race.
Speaking to Chilean outlet La Red (via Manchester Evening News), Morales said: “Everything is closed with a Premier League club for Moises Caicedo. Today he’s getting his work visa and between Wednesday to Thursday we announce it.”
The Ecuadorian international’s game has been likened to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante in the past.
It was rumoured that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were the main frontrunners for his signature. However, they appear to have cooled their interest in recent weeks.
Caicedo has already played over 30 times for Independiente del Valle, scoring six goals, despite his tender age.
He burst onto the scene last season, with South American expert Tim Vickery saying: “A year ago, he was talking about Kante of Chelsea being his role model and he is already more than that.
“In say, a 4-2-3-1, he is like that second man in that line of two so he can defend, but he can also bomb forward. He’s timing his runs very well, he’s cool in possession and he seems to have the whole lot.
“I think he is a wonderful, wonderful signing. That kind of box-to-box midfielder that’s very much in the tradition of the English game. Strong, quick, intelligent and cool. He really does look like the genuine article.”
Fernandes toppled as top man
Liverpool legend John Aldridge says that Reds midfielder Fabinho proved himself as the best player of 2020 ahead of the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Son Heung-min.
The Premier League enjoyed several standout performers last year, United midfielder Fernandes among them. Indeed, the Portuguese has contributed 33 goals in 30 competition appearances.
What’s more, Tottenham stars Son and Harry Kane continued their deadly partnership.
But according to Aldridge, Fabinho has been better than all the rest. The Brazilian has stepped into Jurgen Klopp’s defence in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, who is going through long-term rehabilitation after a knee injury. Read more…
