Manchester United’s Ander Herrera is reportedly on a list of potential midfield signings for Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.
Barca’s transfer ban will be lifted at the end of the year, and though a winger is Luis Enrique’s top priority – he is keen on Celta Vigo’s Nolito, but the 18million euros asking price is too high – the Catalans are also keeping an eye on several midfielders, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Xavi has already left the club, for Qatari club Al Sadd in the summer, while Andres Iniesta is 31 and Rafinha is currently out injured. Arda Turan will be eligible to play for Barca next year, but technical secretary Robert Fernandez is said to have identified seven more midfielders as possible signings.
Among them is Herrera, who continues to be used sparingly by United boss Louis van Gaal and whose agent is Arturo Canales, who also represents Gerard Pique and has a good relationship with the Barca board, Mundo Deportivo says.
The other midfielders apparently on the list are Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund), Youri Tielemans (Anderlecht), Riechedly Bazoer (Ajax), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Marco Verratti (Paris Saint-Germain) and Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen).
