Man Utd chances of Caicedo deal fade as sources claim shock London move is on

Moises Caicedo TEAMtalk

The general manager of Independiente Del Valle has denied that Manchester United have contacted the club for Moises Caicedo, but suggested that a Premier League rival has.

Man Utd have been heavily linked with Caicedo in recent weeks. He has shown promise since making his debut in 2019 and is already a full Ecuador international.

The club want to bring the best young players from around the world to the Premier League. The teenager is the latest target to fit that strategy.

Reports have indicated that Caicedo – who supports United – is ready to travel to England to seal the deal.

In fact, some sources have claimed that only work permit issues are preventing him from signing up. Everything else, including a transfer fee, has reportedly been agreed.

However, it now seems that United still have work to do in their negotiations with Independiente Del Valle. The Ecuadorian club’s general manager, Santiago Morales, has claimed that he is yet to hear from Man Utd.

He did admit, though, that he expects Caicedo to move to a bigger club in 2021.

“There’s interest from various teams for Moises Caicedo and we believe that we will not have him this year,” Morales told Radio La Red.

“There is much speculation with Moises Caicedo. But we haven’t had any communication with Manchester United.

“We are surprised that they even talk about values. But we haven’t spoken with Manchester United, although we have spoken with other great teams in the world.”

Chelsea join race for Caicedo

In a further blow to United’s hopes of tying up a deal for Caicedo, reports elsewhere now claim Premier League rivals Chelsea have swooped in for the midfielder.

According to El Telegrafo in the player’s native country, Chelsea have made contact over the potential signing of the 19-year-old.

Eredivisie side Ajax have also reportedly registered their interest in Caicedo. However, once again, the idea that United are in talks for him has been played down.

Chelsea could be one of the clubs Morales was referring to when speaking of interest in Caicedo in another interview.

“There is another club interested in England and also a team from the five top leagues in Europe,” Morales told Machdeportes.

“We have two strong teams from Europe interested in him, without reaching any understanding yet. But we hope their negotiation will be prompt.”
