Man Utd weigh up move for impressive Prem man compared to former star

Manchester United are monitoring West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek, according to reports.

Soucek has been instrumental for West Ham since joining them from Slavia Prague, initially on loan, in January 2020.

The deal was swiftly made permanent when it became clear that Soucek was an ideal fit in David Moyes’ midfield.

He has even been compared to Marouane Fellaini, whom Moyes managed at Everton and Man Utd, by ex-Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

It appears Soucek is not going unnoticed at Fellaini’s former stomping ground, either. According to Football Insider, the Czech international is on Man Utd’s radar.

West Ham are aware that they may have to fend off bids for Soucek if his impressive form continues. Now, one potential suitor has been identified.

Although Man Utd have other priorities, they could consider an additional reinforcement in midfield.

At present, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prefers a trio of Scott McTominay, Fred and Paul Pogba. However, there are doubts over the latter’s future.

Furthermore, backup option Nemanja Matic is getting towards the twilight of his career and his gametime has dropped significantly.

David Moyes praises Tomas Soucek influence

West Ham boss David Moyes praised Tomas Soucek's influence as his two goals against Crystal Palace helped the club move into the top four of the Premier League.

Therefore, United may be on the lookout for players who can solidify their midfield for years to come. At the age of 25, Soucek is entering the prime of his career.

With eight goals to his name this season, he is West Ham’s top scorer of 2020-21 so far. That makes him an attractive proposition for a number of top European clubs.

West Ham have him under contract until 2024, so would be in no hurry to sell. It is not yet clear what their asking price would be.

They paid £15m to sign him from Slavia Prague. His market value has likely risen since.
