4.50pm: ARSENAL WANT MAN UTD FLOP
Reports claim Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has identified former United winger Memphis Depay as an ideal signing this summer.
The Dutchman, now at Lyon, has proved a fantastic signing for the French club after his failed Red Devils spell.
2.07pm: GARY NEVILLE BEGRUDGLINGLY COMPLIMENTS LIVERPOOL
The Sky Sports pundit went into hiding not long after Liverpool won the title. And you can hardly blame him. See Jurgen Klopp and Co cruise to glory probably hurts him as much as anyone.
Finally though, the full-back has spoken and he has given Klopp and Liverpool numerous plaudits! How sporting!
“Everything at the football club comes from the manager, he sets the tone for everybody, the fan base, the ownership, he sets the tone for the players. He has basically galvanised Liverpool over a three-year period, brought everybody with him and put a brilliant team together.”
“The club’s recruitment has been absolutely spot-on, precise, laser-focused,” he added.
“Every single player they have made count. Every single player has fit a mould, every single player fits the principles of Klopp. There’s been no veering away. When [Christian] Benteke was seen as not fitting the profile, he was moved aside.
“He’s got quick, energetic strikers who make the perfect runs. He’s got a defence that is formidable. The goalkeeper too – he is the best in the world at this moment in time.”
1.27pm: LINDELOF REVELS IN BRUNO BRILLIANCE
Victor Lindelof is clearly absolutely loving playing alongside Bruno Fernandes.
The United star scored his fourth and fifth goals for the club in the 3-0 rout of Brighton last night – and the Swede reckons the Portuguese has everyone at the club on a high.
“He’s been great ever since he signed,” defender Lindelof told the club’s official site. “Straightaway he showed his quality and he came in and wanted the ball and created a lot of chances for us. So he’s been brilliant and he can keep improving and keep doing the same things.
“We have some really good players up there. I think once again they showed what they can do on the pitch and then when we keep the ball like that they can control the game for us.
“So it’s quite nice to watch them play football.”
12.39pm: DEAL TO SELL UNITED LOAN STAR HITS SNAG
Rojo, who made only nine appearances for United before the turn of the year, moved back to Argentina in January.
The 30-year-old only played one game for Estudiantes, though, owing to injury and the global pandemic.
The defender is scheduled to return to Old Trafford, after both clubs failed to seal a new agreement before the expiry of his current loan at the end of June.
Indeed, Estudiantes also decided not to activate the purchase option in Rojo‘s loan deal.
12pm: SOLSKJAER EXCITED ABOUT MAN UTD
11.20am: DORTMUND’S SANCHO MESSAGE
Borussia Dortmund’s CEO has admitted that his side’s transfer plans are shattered after revealing “dramatic” losses in club revenue.
Hans-Joachim Watzke insists, however, that Jadon Sancho’s exit fee will not be lowered.
10.15am: WILLIAN BOOST?
Transfer news now, and an update on the future of Chelsea winger Willian.
The Brazilian is staying at Chelsea until the end of the protracted season but his future beyond that point is unclear – boss Frank Lampard has refused to open up on talks.
Meanwhile, reports claim United are keen and the latest speculation says the Red Devils have an advantage in that the winger wants to stay in England.
9.15am: PHIL NEVILLE WANTS MORE GOALS
Phil Neville believes Manchester United need to get more goals from their front three if they are to challenge for the title next season.
The England Women’s boss says United need to copy the blueprint of champions Liverpool and previous champions Man City if they are to go back to being the best in the country.
United’s form since the restart after coronavirus has been good and they smashed three goals past Brighton on Tuesday night with two goals from Bruno Fernandes and one goal from Mason Greenwood.
The result leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men just behind fourth-placed Chelsea and gunning for a top-three finish.
However, former United defender Neville wants more goals from Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
They have contributed 36 goals this term, but Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have produced 44 league goals, while last season’s Man City attack of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane hit the net 49 times.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Neville said: “If you think of the front three of City and Liverpool over the last few years, you’ve had Sane, Sterling and Aguero, probably 20-30 goals. Liverpool, probably 20 to 30 goals. United is 10-20.
“Greenwood is nearer to 20, Rashford and Martial are nearer to 20.”
9.05am: FERNANDES ON POGBA
Much has been made of the midfield partnership between Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba at United.
The two combined to great effect on Tuesday in the first half to put the Red Devils in control.
However, Fernandes has explained why he is not focusing on his individual connection with the Frenchman.
8.50am: SOLSKJAER REACTION
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted as his side extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches.
Speaking after the game, the manager was full of praise for his side – and he also picked out one of his players in particular following their fantastic performance.
