Man Utd retain firm interest in key target after missing out in summer

Manchester United remain firmly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison next summer after missing out in the last transfer window, according to a report.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old earlier this summer, following his impressive debut season with the Foxes in which he netted seven goals and assisted as many others in the Premier League.

The Red Devils ended up without a midfield addition before the start of the Premier League season, but the Manchester Evening News now reports that United have not given up hope of landing their man following the conclusion of the current campaign.

The newspaper says that a move for Maddison to Old Trafford this summer was always unlikely, but adds that United are still keen since the midfielder fits the profile of the player Solskjaer is looking to add to his squad.

Maddison, who will feature for Leicester this weekend when the Foxes and United meet at Old Trafford, has made a solid start to the current season, assisting two goals in four Premier League games.

Leicester sit third in the table with eight points from four games, three more than Solskjaer’s side in eighth.
