Man Utd on alert as £70m defensive target delays signing new deal
Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in defensive target Milan Skriniar, who continues to stall over a new Inter Milan deal.
The Slovakian stopper is already on a long-term contract with Inter but the Serie A giants are trying to tie him down to a more lucrative one to ward off interest from potential suitors – including United.
However, the 23-year-old has yet to agree to the new contract offer and Calciomerato claims that Skriniar, who is rated as one of the best central defenders in European football, could still be on the move come the new year.
The player only recently opened up on all the speculation over his future, admitting that he was just focusing on the job in hand at the San Siro.
United boss Jose Mourinho was desperate to bring in a new centre-back in the summer, missing out on the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng, and is sure to be on the prowl again in January – especially as the quartet of Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have continued to show defensive lapses in a tough start to the season for the Red Devils.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have held talks with Mourinho over taking over from Julen Lopetegui, according to a report. Read the full story here.
