A Manchester United player could end up being stuck on the bench at Old Trafford after prime suitors Nottingham Forest began looking at an Arsenal man instead, according to reports.

Forest have brought in two new players so far this summer. Chelsea academy graduate Ola Aina became their first arrival of the transfer window when he signed on a free transfer from Torino on July 22. And Steve Cooper’s side soon followed that deal up with the capture of winger Anthony Elanga from Man Utd.

According to The Guardian, Forest spent £15million when signing Elanga on a five-year contract, having beaten Everton to his services.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been widely tipped to follow Elanga to the City Ground. The Man Utd man spent last season on loan at Forest after deciding he does not want to simply warm the bench in Manchester.

Forest have long been in talks with the Red Devils as they look to sign Henderson on a permanent deal. But according to various sources including the Daily Mirror, Forest and Man Utd have yet to agree on a fee, leading to frustration among all three parties involved.

Man Utd are hoping to receive £20m for the Englishman, but it does not look like Forest are willing to pay this much.

Instead, the East Midlands outfit are now looking into whether they can improve their keeper ranks by landing Arsenal’s Matt Turner.

The 29-year-old only joined Arsenal last summer, arriving from MLS side New England Revolution. He has operated as Aaron Ramsdale’s backup since then but could already be on the move once again.

Nott’m Forest move on from Dean Henderson – reports

The Athletic report that Turner’s switch to Forest is dependent on two hurdles being overcome. The first is a deal being struck, as Forest and Arsenal are currently some way off in their valuations of the shot-stopper.

Secondly, Arsenal want to bring in Brentford’s David Raya first before allowing Turner to leave. On Sunday, it emerged that Arsenal were hoping to beat Bayern in the race for the Spain international, who has refused to sign a new contract with Brentford. He should cost in the region of £40m.

Turner will likely be excited about the prospect of joining Forest. When signing for Arsenal originally, he will have been aiming to dislodge Ramsdale as the club’s number one. But that has not happened, so a move to Forest would give him the chance to play more often.

For Henderson, Forest going after Turner represents a big problem. No other clubs have expressed their interest in signing him yet. As such, he is now at risk of being an outcast again at Man Utd, which is exactly what he did not want.

Meanwhile, a sensational report has claimed Man Utd have launched a bid to sign a world-class star before Man City.
