Man Utd confident of landing exciting winger for reduced £45m fee

Jorge Miramon, Mikel Oyarzabal

Manchester United trust they will be able to land Real Sociedad winger Mikel Oyarzabal for a reduced price of £45million, according to a report.

Oyarzabal has had a fantastic impact for Sociedad this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting 10 others in LaLiga.

Indeed, he has featured in all but one of his side’s games, taking the captain’s armband on 28 occasions.

TEAMtalk has previously revealed that Manchester City are keen on Oyarzabal, with Leroy Sane leaving for Bayern Munich.

However, according to Todofichajes, United have also joined the bidding in recent weeks.

The source says that while Jadon Sancho is the Red Devils’ top target, the club eye Oyarzabal as a solid alternative.

United are reportedly “desperate” for an addition on the wing, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to sign further firepower.

In fact, Oyarzabal reportedly has a €70million (£63million) release clause in his contract but United are reportedly confident of driving that fee down to €50million (£45million).

Across Manchester, City are allegedly aware of their neighbours’ interest and could look to accelerate talks with Sociedad.

Solskjaer has previously revealed his uncertainty over the transfer budget he will have in the coming months.

The comments came after he called on United to “exploit” the financial struggles of fellow clubs in April.

Other reports claim United want a centre-back and a striker in before the start of next season.

WRIGHT UNSURE ABOUT LUKE SHAW’S PROGRESS

Elsewhere, Ian Wright says United should consider signing a new left-back ahead of the start of the new season.

Having lacked consistency under former Red Devils bosses Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal, England international Luke Shaw has found just that under Solskjaer.

However, Wright says he would rather see United sign another option for the role.
