Man Utd man told to ditch Ten Hag for Postecoglou project and show ‘unbelievable’ talent at Tottenham
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been told to leave Old Trafford and complete a shock transfer to Tottenham, in a move which may allow him to reach his massive potential.
Sancho joined Man Utd from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. The Red Devils spent a huge £73million on him after he tore up the Bundesliga during a brilliant four-year spell in Germany.
However, Sancho has not yet lived up to expectations at Man Utd. In his first season, he managed just five goals and three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
Sancho will have been hoping to improve under Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman is known for his ability to make young players better. However, the 23-year-old has not always been able to start under Ten Hag and could only achieve seven goals and three assists in 41 outings.
Surprisingly, there have been rumours Man Utd could cut ties with Sancho after just two years. Both Tottenham and Aston Villa have been put forward as potential destinations, with Man Utd setting their asking price at £60m.
Clearly, this is still a lot of money to pay. But if either Spurs or Villa can get the attacker back to his brilliant best, then it could end up being well worth the fee.
Former Spurs and Villa right-back Alan Hutton has now urged Sancho to consider a move to North London, where he could help kickstart a new era under Ange Postecoglou. Hutton added that Sancho will be eager to reach his full potential, which is ‘unbelievable’.
“I think Spurs is a good option,” the pundit said in an interview with Football Insider.
Player’s Man Utd spell ‘hasn’t worked out’
“I mean, obviously he’s had a difficult season at Manchester United after joining with a big price tag.
“It’s not quite worked out, he’s had his own issues off the field and he’s not been maybe part of the squad, but I think there’s an unbelievable football player within there.
“It will definitely be very interesting to see how Tottenham’s transfer business plays out, and it’ll be interesting to see if Ange Postecoglou is the man to convince Levy of a big spend.
“The fee and the wages is going to be through the roof for Sancho and it’s something that I’m not sure Daniel Levy will be willing to open the purse strings of that amount for one player.”
As Hutton states, a potential move is ultimately down to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. If he does not feel Sancho is worth £60m, then he will not pull the trigger.
We have already seen how crafty Levy is in this transfer window after he launched a £50m joint bid for Leicester duo James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, which will surely be rejected.
If Spurs reject the chance to snare Sancho, then it could be a good move for Villa to consider. Their owners are very rich, which means they would be able to afford Sancho’s £60m price tag. And if the Villans did land him, then it would be a real sign of intent as they look to force their way into the top six next campaign.
Although, it remains to be seen whether Sancho is high up in Unai Emery’s thinking amid his search for squad improvements.
Meanwhile, Man Utd have landed on a new forward target after opting against a move for Spurs striker Harry Kane.
