Manchester United are ready to reward David de Gea with a deal to make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world, a report claims.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Jose Mourinho will attempt to keep De Gea at Old Trafford by offering him an £18.4million-a-year deal.
Real Madrid have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 27-year-old, who almost made the switch to the Bernabeu in summer 2015 only for a faulty fax machine to thwart the deal going through.
Recently, the Manchester Evening News recently claimed that the Madrid giants are optimistic of signing him for £100m – a fee which would eclipse the world record for a goalkeeper.
However, De Gea himself recently refuted claims he is looking for a move in an interview with El Partidazo de Cope.
“I don’t think [Real president] Florentino Pérez has my number. I don’t know if I’ll be the goalkeeper at Real Madrid.
“What I do know is that I’m very happy in Manchester. What I want is to win titles, like every other player.
“There’s no lacking in winning titles there [United] – we have to improve.
“We are a big club, we are not here to take second place. We have to improve and make this club great.”
Meanwhile, The Independent also recently stated that United are ‘confident’ that De Gea will pen a new five-year deal.
