Two figureheads named in report of Man Utd dressing room split

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer TEAMtalk

Manchester United’s dressing room is “divided” and the reason why Romelu Lukaku departed for Inter Milan last summer, claims an Italian journalist.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure at Old Trafford after a woeful start to the Premier League season.

The home defeat to Crystal Palace was a warning sign all is not well and last week’s 6-1 drubbing by Spurs has the alarm bells ringing.

Rumours of an approach for Mauricio Pochettini were quickly quelled by the club. The United PR machine rolled into action after the Daily Star claimed Pochettino had been “sounded out” over taking over from the Norwegian.

United publicly backed their man again and denied any interest in the former Tottenham boss, who remains out of work.

Solskjaer though has issues on the field to worry about.

According to Paolo Condo, who works for La Repubblica, the United dressing room is split.

So much so that Lukaku’s decision to leave for Inter was driven by the unrest. The Belgium international was unhappy with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Both French players have had miserable starts to the season.

Condo said: “If things don’t improve, the next transfer window will be used by someone to attack Matic, and in the background remains the boulder of Pogba’s contract expiration, set at 2021.

“The players, then, talk to each other.

“Lukaku was tired of United because Pogba and Martial were struggling to pass him the ball, a picture of a dressing room divided in groups.

“When Sanchez and Young asked him before signing how things were at Inter, the first answer was ‘really good, there are no clans’.

“Times have really changed.”

Whether or not Solskjaer can turn things around, or will be given time to turn things around remains to be seen.

Keane: Players will get Ole the sack

Roy Keane, speaking to ITV Sport on Thursday called the performance against Spurs “disgraceful” and thinks some players are just not up to the job.

Keane told ITV Sport: “The performance against Spurs was disgraceful.

“We’ve all be in football, we’ve had bad days but I thought it was a disgrace to the badge some of the players’ performance. Too many bluffers.

“Ultimately, I think it will cost Ole his job. With the players he’s got there.

“I’ve said it before, they threw the previous manager [Mourinho] under the bus and they’ll do exactly the same to Ole.”
