Manchester United are willing to pause their pursuit of a new left-back due to the emergence of Brandon Williams, but are keeping tabs on Ben Chilwell, claims a report.
The full-back positions had been an area of concern for United in recent seasons, prompting them to spend £50m on right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka this summer. However, the left side of defence remained unchanged.
With concerns about Luke Shaw’s fitness growing, Manchester Evening News claim that United are on the search for targets who could replenish the position – with Chilwell (who fits in with their policy of targeting young, English players) standing out.
The England star has been in good form for Leicester during the first few months of the season, with reports suggesting his price tag has risen to £70m.
Chilwell famously missed out on a move to Liverpool in the past, but now their rivals are contemplating a bid.
However, the MEN say the move may be put on the back burner if academy graduate Brandon Williams continues to impress.
The 19-year-old has burst onto the scene with standout performances in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, although he is yet to start a Premier League game.
Nonetheless, his potential has reportedly convinced United, leading the MEN to claim that left-back is now “at the bottom of their priority positions”.
