Man Utd have reportedly agreed a two-year deal that will see prolific striker Edinson Cavani call Old Trafford his new home.

The Red Devils have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window, with just ex-Ajax midfielder Donny Van De Beek acquired thus far.

Much of the club’s attention had been absorbed by the ongoing transfer saga regarding Jadon Sancho.

But with a breakthrough with Borussia Dortmund looking increasingly unlikely to be made – despite the club’s continued efforts – Utd have now switched their efforts into signing another elite forward.

Uruguayan Cavani, 33, is currently a free agent after his departure from PSG over the summer.

A plethora of Europe’s elite clubs had registered interest in the clinical marksman, but according to multiple reports, Man Utd appear to have won the race.

The Express note that Man Utd have ‘reached an agreement’ with the forward who is expected to ‘fly to the city tomorrow to complete his medical’.

A two-year deal is stated to be in the works, with Utd set to ‘pay the 33-year-old £20million to make the move.’

Cavani has been one of Europe’s elite strikers over the last decade, notching north of 20 goals per season in each of his previous nine campaigns prior to last year.

He is expected to provide competition with Anthony Martial centrally, though is equally adept at operating on the flank, having done so frequently at PSG during Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time in Paris.

Mourinho hits back at critics of Man Utd reign

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is adamant he met expectations while at Manchester United ahead of his latest return to Old Trafford with Tottenham on Sunday.

Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years in the United hotseat, before being sacked in December 2018. During his time in charge, he won the Europa League and League Cup. He also finished second in the Premier League and was beaten in the 2018 FA Cup final.

He left later that year after things turned sour in his third season. United fans though gave him a warm reception on his first visit back with Spurs last December.

The Portuguese believes he did only what was possible in his time there.

“I expected that, I never had problems in the club,” he said of the supporters’ reaction. “The fans, they know that I gave everything that I could.
