Man Utd release talented duo to allow them to join Prem rivals

Manchester United defender Jake Barrett and Harry Spratt have both been released from the club, so they can complete transfers to Huddersfield.

Both players have been in and out of Kieran McKenna’s title-chasing Under-18 side, who currently sit top of the U-18 Premier League.

A statement on the club’s official website confirmed the pair have been released from their contracts so they can continue their development at the John Smith’s Stadium, as reported in Metro.

Centre-back Barrett, 18, had made just six appearances this season and previously had a trial at Burnley. He made his first appearance for Town in the Easter weekend in the Under-19 Champions Trophy in Germany.

Spratt, also 18, played nine times for United’s U-18s last season and has overcome an injury lay-off to earn a switch to his native west Yorkshire.
