Man Utd have been handed a major boost in their efforts to sign Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund indicated they would accept a lower than expected initial payment.

The Sancho to Man Utd transfer saga is undoubtedly the footballing story of the summer.

The 20-year-old’s rapid rise since switching England for Germany has been meteoric. With his prowess typified by his 20 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season.

Liverpool have fleetingly been linked with the superstar, and comments from Trent Alexander-Arnold recently roused speculation.

But Old Trafford remains the likeliest of destinations, and the club’s hierarchy have united as one to green light the deal.

The predictable issue of finance has always lingered, but now according to The Express, progress on that front has been made.

A figure as high as £120m had previously been touted. But the newspaper report that Dortmund would be willing to accept a deal with just £60m paid up front.

Dortmund are still determined to receive £100m for Sancho overall, meaning the rest will have to revolve around delayed payments or add-ons.

The remainder of the fee will have to be negotiated between the clubs, but the development has sparked renewed optimism.

No formal offer has thus far been lodged. But it is speculated that this is because Man Utd are comfortable with how well negotiations between the clubs have been handled so far.

Man Utd clause causing concern for Zaha

Meanwhile, Wilfried Zaha is worried that a clause Man Utd inserted into the deal when he left Old Trafford could scupper an exit from Crystal Palace again.

The winger has been expected to leave Palace in each of the last two summer transfer windows.

The 27-year-old actually signed a new deal after failing to secure an exit in 2018, but tried to force the situation last year by handing in a transfer request.

Zaha has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Napoli in recent transfer windows.

His recent decision to part with Will Salthouse and link up with renowned agent Pini Zahavi has also indicated that he sees his future elsewhere.
