Man Utd say yes to shock Tottenham raid, as Postecoglou moves for troubled star Ten Hag will ditch

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is leading the charge to sign a problem Man Utd player who’s been given the greenlight to leave, per reports.
Postecoglou, 57, was officially announced as the new Spurs boss on Tuesday morning. With the Australian now on board, attention is quickly turning to what is shaping up to be a pivotal transfer window in north London.
According to the Telegraph, a full scale defensive revamp could be on the cards with as many as four first-teamers to make way.
Indeed, the newspaper claim the option to buy in Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona could be ignored. Elsewhere, Tottenham will listen to offers for Eric Dier and Ben Davies, while Davinson Sanchez ‘will be made available’.
With a raft of defensive exits on the cards, new arrivals are a must and per both the Telegraph and Daily Mail, ,Man Utd’s Harry Maguire is in Tottenham’s sights.
The Mail led the way, reporting Spurs are ‘exploring’ a move for the 30-year-old who is no longer a regular starter at Old Trafford.
That honour goes to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Victor Lindelof is also ahead of Maguire in the pecking order, while Erik ten Hag regularly played Luke Shaw out of position at centre-half ahead of Maguire this season.
With Gareth Southgate voicing concerns over Maguire’s predicament ahead of Euro 2024 next year, Maguire’s situation at club level is coming to a head. Indeed, he remains a regular for his national side, though that will come under greater scrutiny if he warms the bench for a second straight season.
As such, the Mail report Maguire – who is Man Utd’s captain – ‘will be allowed to leave’ this summer.
Harry Kane ramifications made clear
Postecoglou has taken an interest in the player and a move would be warmly received by Harry Kane, per both reports.
Indeed, Kane and Maguire reportedly hold a close friendship through their time together on international duty with England.
Kane’s future is also up in the air amid links to Real Madrid and Man Utd, though a Maguire signing may be a factor that nudges him towards staying at Spurs.
The Telegraph also stress Maguire to Tottenham would be completely separate to any Kane exit, potentially to Man Utd. In other words, Maguire would not be used as any kind of makeweight as part of a grander transfer.
The Mail add Postecoglou will play a key role in choosing Tottenham’s transfer targets. His interest in Maguire could therefore lead to a firm approach. With Man Utd open to selling, a deal does appear there for the making.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Napoli’s Kim Min-jae. Reports in Italy suggest an agreement has been reached and the South Korean’s arrival would be another indicator Maguire is poised to move on this summer.
In the event Tottenham’s interest in Maguire comes to nothing, the Mail add Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is an alternative target.
