Manchester United remain keen on Sporting Lisbon defender Merih Demiral, according to a report in Turkey.
There appears to be growing interest in the 20-year-old centre-back, who moved on loan to Alanyaspor this season to gain first-team experience.
Turkish outlet Aksam reported that United had scouted the player last March, and now Turkish-Football report that “a source close to Alanyaspor” says United are among several clubs to watch the player this season.
The young centre-back has played five times in the Turkish Super Lig and scored once, while Alanyaspor have conceded just three goals in that time.
Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik reported in April 2017 that United had been joined by Besiktas and Galatasaray in keeping tabs on the youngster.
The Turkey U21 international has a €45m release clause and has four years left on his contract and he is believed to be just one of a number of young centre-backs that Jose Mourinho is tracking.
On Monday ESPN claimed that Mourinho wanted the club to back him publicly and had asked for the cash to sign Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan.
