Man Utd offer to set incredible new bar as desperation sets in over Pogba future
Manchester United want to make Paul Pogba the highest-paid player in the Premier League in a bid to secure his future, a report claims.
The France international – who is currently starring at Euro 2020 – has temporarily offset concerns over his plans. But with only a year left on his contract, the time has come to make a decision. However, reports earlier this month claim that Pogba is delaying talks in a bid to attract transfer interest from European giants.
The midfielder supposedly wants to wait until after Euro 2020 to sit down with his employers. Soon after that claim came out, though, United grew eager and began talks with the midfielder’s representatives.
Now, The Sun has revealed details of those discussions, revealing that the Red Devils want to pay Pogba £400,000 per week.
Over a five-year deal, that would equate to the 28-year-old earning £104million in total.
Indeed, the newspaper adds that United feel ‘desperate’ to sort the midfielder’s future out after his strong campaign.
Pogba played arguably his best season in a Red Devils shirt since his return from Juventus in 2016.
He showed more consistency with his performances and chipped in with vital goals to boot; his goals against Fulham and Burnley won United six Premier League points that eventually helped them finish second.
Transfer Chatter - Liverpool in for Sweden forward, Chelsea's verbal agreement with full-back and Wolves chasing ex-Atletico striker
Jurgen Klopp is monitoring a 17-goal Swedish international, Chelsea have a verbal agreement with one of the world's most exciting full-backs and Wolves toying with approaching free agent, all in today's transfer chatter.
On the European stage, meanwhile, Pogba sent his club through to the last eight of the Europa League with the winner against AC Milan.
His prospective new deal would top the £375,000 per week which goalkeeper David de Gea earns.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has earmarked the midfielder’s importance to his team. Ex-United coach Nicky Butt has also insisted that a new midfielder is not a priority if Pogba stays.
Pogba had role in Diallo deal
Elsewhere, exciting United youngster Amad Diallo has revealed that Pogba played a crucial role in his decision to move to Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic start to his United career, netting in the side’s Europa League campaign.
Out of all the star players in Solskjaer’s side, though, Amad picked out Pogba as his greatest influence.
