Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Manchester United will not be making any signings on deadline day.
It’s been a window of outgoings at Old Trafford, bar the completion of the transfer of Amad Diallo from Atalanta.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been sold to Bayer Leverkusen, Jesse Lingard has joined West Ham on loan and Facundo Pellistri has been loaned to Alaves
Argentine defender Marcos Rojo is expected to complete a permanent switch to Boca Juniors, but Solskjaer confirmed there would be no new signings.
The Norwegian said: “I can confirm there won’t be anyone in, so don’t stay up late.”
Solskjaer also confirmed teenager Teden Mengi is set to go on loan and the PA news agency understands Wayne Rooney’s Derby is the destination.
“We’ve made decisions that we feel have been good for individuals and for us as well,” the United boss said.
“With the young players moving on, with (James) Garner, (Tahith) Chong, Mengi, (Facundo) Pellistri getting the chance to play more football has been important for us.
“And our group is a tight-knit group. We don’t have too many players in excess and hopefully Jesse (Lingard) can get going and play at West Ham as well.”
Jones on the comeback trail
Solskjaer also said that Phil Jones, who has yet to play this season due to injury, will be added to United’s Premier League and Europa League squads.
“Phil has been recovering from a knee injury, an operation he had, and he’s working hard to be available again,” he said.
“He will be included on the list and hopefully he’ll get his fitness back sooner rather than later and be available to play.”
Jones, 29 this month, has been injured since June and not played for United in over a year. The former Blackburn man’s contract expires in 2023 and he was expected to move on in the winter window.
