Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has his top two summer transfer targets set out and Jadon Sancho is surprisingly not on the list, according to reports.
Sancho was understood to be among the players Manchester United would be looking at in the summer. However, the impact of Diallo Amad Diallo.
Diallo, 18, officially completed his move to Old Trafford in January in a £37m deal from Atalanta. He has yet to appear for the first-team but Solskjaer has been promising his appearance soon. And he has “made a sensational impact behind the scenes”.
That is the verdict from the Daily Express, who claim his impact could “potentially end the club’s pursuit of Sancho”.
United pursued Sancho all last summer and were intent on signing the England winger from Borussia Dortmund. But United refused to meet Dortmund’s asking price of around £108m and missed a deadline imposed by the Bundesliga club.
Now though Solskjaer could be happy to bank on Diallo on the right wing. Nobody has been able to nail down the place with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek all being tried there.
And the Daily Star says United have nailed down their two priorities this summer – Erling Haaland and Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United wanted more
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer credited his players for their ruthlessness following Tuesday's record-equalling 9-0 victory over Southampton.
Haaland has been on United’s wanted list for 12 months after their failed to snare him last January.
Solskjaer and Haaland worked together at Molde. Solskjaer even flew out last January to see the 20-year-old after he blasted 29 goals in 27 games for RedBull Salzburg.
United though apparently baulked at the fee his agent Mino Raiola wanted. Instead the Norwegian secured a move to Borussia Dortmund for just £17.2m.
Furthermore, it’s claimed Ed Woodward was opposed to the insistence of the Haaland camp that a release clause be inserted into his Old Trafford contract.
That clause has since been inserted into his deal at Dortmund. This states he can now leave the Westfallonstadion in 2022 should any club match his £63m release fee.
That apparently won’t stop United going after the Norwegian this summer. And they also want 22-year-old defender Kounde.
The centre-back is emerging as one of the brightest prospects in LaLiga with Sevilla.
United are likely to face competition for Kounde’s signature. The former Bordeaux man is attracting attention from Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
