Man Utd striker deal ignites with £100m-plus move to wreck Arsenal plan for ‘new Haaland’ in huge double move

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag
A Man Utd striker move has taken a giant leap forward after after the player’s club locked on to an Arsenal target dubbed the ‘new Haaland’ as his direct replacement, per a report.
A new centre-forward is the top priority at Old Trafford this summer. Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen of Napoli are believed to be the primary targets of Erik ten Hag and United’s recruitment team.
Both could cost upwards of £100m and both Tottenham and Napoli hold reputations as being tough negotiators.
Kane would come with the advantage of being proven in the Premier League. However, Osimhen is five years younger and may represent the sounder long-term investment.
Now, a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato has given Man Utd a huge boost in their quest to sign Osimhen.
They reiterate Napoli are reluctant to part ways with their lethal frontman, though are gearing up for his sale nonetheless.
Explaining how, the report notes Napoli have begun scouting for Osimhen replacements and a striker wanted by Arsenal is who they’ve settled on.
Atalanta striker, Rasmus Hojlund, is the man in question. The Denmark international, 20, is being dubbed the ‘new Haaland’ and did that comparison a world of good on Thursday night when scoring a hattrick in Denmark’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland.
Hojlund brought his goals tally for club and country this season to 17 with that treble. His exploits have attracted the interest of Arsenal and Newcastle who TuttoAtalanta claimed were both ready to bid €50m (approx. £44m) for Hojlund this summer.
However, in the event Napoli do greenlight an Osimhen sale to Man Utd, Luciano Spalletti’s side will be in the market for a new striker and they’ll also have the money to compete with the English sides too.
Calcio state everyone in Naples has agreed Hojlund is the perfect player to replace Osimhen. Corriere dello Sport then confirm the Dane is favoured by Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Calcio acknowledge ‘English sides’ have been sniffing around Hojlund. However, if Man Utd lodge a ‘super offer’ for Osimhen, the report concludes Napoli ‘already know’ who’ll fill the void.
