Crystal Palace have stunned Manchester United by informing them that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will cost a ‘remarkable’ £60million if they want to sign him this summer.
Palace’s star right-back Wan-Bissaka has emerged as one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s major targets this summer as the United boss looks to reshape his squad at Old Trafford.
United have been linked with both the Palace right-back and his teammate Patrick van Aanholt as they embark on one of the biggest transfer windows in their history. The club has also been heavily linked with a new striker to replace Romelu Lukaku, a new central defender and quite possibly a new goalkeeper amid doubts over David De Gea. Two players are said to have been shortlisted to fill replace the Spaniard as No 1.
But with Wilfried Zaha also looking to leave Selhurst Park this summer, the Mail on Sunday say Palace ‘are determined’ to keep at least one of the pair into next season.
As per the report, Palace have therefore ‘placed a remarkable £60m price tag’ on Wan-Bissaka, safe in the knowledge that “is way above what United would be prepared to pay”.
United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has vowed ‘not to dramatically overspend on new recruits in either transfer fees or salary’ after the Alexis Sanchez debacle, so such a high valuation is likely to end United’s pursuit.
Wan-Bissaka, 21, has three years remaining on his Selhurst Park contract.
Reports on Sunday also suggest Zaha looks the more likely to leave this summer. Arsenal are reported to have made the first move to sign the player too, with a report in The Sun suggesting the Gunners had offered the Eagles £40m plus their pick from three unwanted stars.
